Google is Indexing HTTPS pages by default

Back To All Posts

By Karen Oliver

We all know Google loves keeping us on our toes with SEO – but maybe this time it’s for a good reason?

To make the web a safer place, Google announced yesterday that they are adjusting their indexing system to look for more HTTPS pages. Last year they had started using SSL as a very slight ranking factor but now, according to this recent news, their systems prefer the HTTPS version by default.

If you don’t already have SSL, it may take some time to set up a certificate and even though it comes with a yearly hosting fee it might be worth considering. For SEO purposes it’s better to always try to make sure any possible ranking signal is covered, and in this case you’ll also ensure your site is nicely encrypted and secure.

Contact us if you need advice or would like to get an SSL certificate installed.
