The origin of the maze is thought to date back to neolithic times although the earliest have been found about 4000 years old ago in Egypt and Crete. The Egyptian Labyrinth was a vast palace complex built in the 19th century BC. Mazes have also been used in gardening with the oldest surviving branching hedge maze at Hampton Court Palace which was originally designed in 1690. However, ours is new and simpler (hopefully)
